On This webpage:  you'll find a detailed list of every major Video Game system. 

      Along with it, we've chosen the most suitable emulator (which more-or-less allows gameplay on your PC).  The chart also gives basic instructions on how to use it.  Also describing whether or not the Computer System is user-friendly.   
The most useful emulators are reviewed, in order to save alot of time & effort. 

      One obvious note:  most downloaded emulators must first be unzipped before using.  (which is probably obvious).  This can be done with winrar or winzip.  Then, games downloaded from the internet must be placed into the ROM folder.  Or, you must choose a path in the configuration screen.    
     The entire collection of Top Emulators is available for download On our website: Download Page.   .....it's perfect for die-hard gamers, as well as, those who are currently unfamiliar with emulation, Gaming, and Roms.

Freedo is the only 3D0 emulator for your Computer.


Where to Install:
(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

BIOS:
You cannot play games without including Bios.
(fz10_rom  bin).

Plugins:

This emulator should be optimised with Plug-ins.

Configuration:
This emulator cannot configure correctly.   
It's not a great emulator, and the joypad handling is very inaccurate. 

Features:
The emulator, by itself is adequate for gameplaying. Just add bios.

 additional notes:  Freedo is more-or-less  an unfinished project.  although many websites give this emulator supurb reviews .
 
  Atari 2600

basic info for STELLA 
Stella is the best Atari 2600 emulator for your Computer.
(however, the newest versions, such as Stella 3.3 are less user-friendly than older versions.  Stella 2.4.2.0 was somewhat easy to configure compared to version 3.2.    Version 2.35 was even easier.  However, it seems, the older version StellaX v1.1.3a had better full-screen graphics than current versions.   So, it would seem, version 1.1.3a produces the best feel of any atari emulator.  However, you must throw a "ROM" folder into the StellaX exe folder, because the configuration screen has a tendency to FREEZE when using Windows 7.

Where to Install: 
(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

BIOS: Bios are not necessary to play games.

Plugins: This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

Configuration:
This emulator is somewhat difficult to configure,  mainly because selecting the ROM path is somewhat annoying.  Aside from the Confusing selection of your ROMPATH, all else should be simple.

Features:
The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".

It's actually recommended that you don't try additional front-ends.

joypad configuration:

additional notes:  Believe it or not,  the older StellaX 1.3 seems to be FAR Better than current versions.   The older StellaX  is more stable,  offers FULL-SCREEN, more precise Joypad, and it's easier to configure.
 
  Atari 5200
MESS will one day become a top emulator; once system compatibility rises.

---M.E.S.S. is the Best Atari 800/XL/XE emulator for your PC.

This emulator is multi-platform. 
 But, it seems to particularly handle Atari 5200 perfectly.
Note:  most Systems on the list are not yet compatible.
Therefore, MESS cannot play 3do, Atari Jaguar, or Virtualboy.
In fact, MESS is only compatible with some systems on the list.

Where to Install:
(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

This emulator should be installed in the program files. 

 BIOS:
You cannot play games without including Bios.

Plugins:
This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

Configuration:
This emulator requires lengthy and complex configuration.
And, it will be difficult for casual gamers.

 Features:
The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".

(just add bios in the correct folder, for each game system. 
Unlike MAME, MESS requires ROMS and Bios to be placed in an exact folder.
Otherwise the games will not load.
I�ve included a version of MESS; entitled MESS Atari 5200.
This enables you to study the efforts which I�ve made thus far.
Notice how the ROMS folder contains numerous subfolders.
Each represents its own game system.
You MUST place the ROMS & BIOS in the correct folder.
Then, when using MESS,  the ICON must be placed on the desired Icon.
So, if you wish to play Atari 5200 games, the Arrow must be on Atari 5200. (of course)

Cheats: It seems, each game system has its own cheat file. 
Thus, it�s not one simple zipped file.

joypad configuration: should be easy. And, the default option is �ON�.
  In MAME, the default option is set to off. But, MESS uses the correct option.

 additional notes:  In order to learn using MESS, please view the zipped version which I�ve been trying.  This will give you a better understanding.

ALSO NOTE:
    MESS is the type of emulator which does not load ROMS by normal methods.
Instead, you must �Mount� the image. 
 GO TO:  Device View.   (Cartslot).
   Then, locate the desired cartridge.
  Now, you must go to [Picker], and choose the cartridge.
 It also seems, the information is lost upon resetting the emulator.

In other words:
    after mounting several games, this configuration might not be saved.
 
  Atari 7800
Prosystem is a Four-star emulator.

Prosystem 1.3 is the best Atari 7800 emulator for your Computer.

Where to Install:
(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

BIOS:
Surprisingly, Bios are not necessary to play games.
Other 7800 emulators, such as emu7800 and Mess require Bios.
(the bios are called 7800.rom)

Plugins:
This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

Configuration:
This emulator is quite easy to use.  Requires little configuration.

Prosystem will play ROMS unzipped.  But unzipping  your Roms are recommended,
or else, the path doesn't remain totally consistant.  

Features:
The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".

Cheats:  The Best feature is the ability to Save your game location, and then, return to that exact point.   Simply choose a File name, and then save.

 joypad configuration:  easy.

 additional notes:  MESS is supposed to be the best Atari Emulator.  But, PROSYSTEM is 100% smoother.     There's another 7800 emulator which also looks promising.  emu7800 (beta).
 
   Atari 8 Bit computers
...800XL / Atari 400 ...

Atari800WinPlus is the Best Atari 800/XL/XE emulator for your PC.

Where to Install:
(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

BIOS:
You cannot play games without including Bios.
This emulator can play multiple systems, such as Atari XE, XL, and 800.

However, bios are needed for each.

Plugins:
This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

Configuration:
This emulator is somewhat easy to configure.  But, can be annoying.

Features:
The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for game-playing.   "Ready to go".
But, of course, you need Bios.  Plus, they must be given the correct path.

Cheats: YES, there�s a built-in cheat screen.
and it features the earliest type of Cheat Methods.  [Sprite-busting].
However, it does work on many games.  And NO codes are required.
So long as you can disable collisions, then it might work.
Just go to MISC, then look at the cheat option.  Try it.

joypad configuration: Yes, fairly easy.

additional notes:  this emulator does Not seem to emulate the Atari 5200.
Also, until you successfully load a ROM,
                        Atari800Win will not remember your settings.
 
  Atari Jaguar
  
 

Basic info for Atari Jaguar 


Project Tempest is the Best Jaguar emulator for your PC.
However, the games handle sluggishly.
and, it doesn�t have a great compatibility list.
SO, Atari Jaguar fans must wait.

Where to Install:
This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder.

BIOS:
You cannot play games without including Bios.

Plugins:
This emulator should work without added plug ins.
However, Programmers should have added Graphic-Enhancements. But, thus far, these pleasures do Not exist.

Configuration:
This emulator requires very little configuration.

 Features:
The emulator, by itself (along with Bios) is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".However, there are utilities which enhance the Menu-Screen. 

joypad configuration:
Somewhat lengthy. And, not always 100% responsive.

additional notes:  None of the Jaguar emulators work great.  And, it seems, little effort is being made for Future development.   Who knows, perhaps, M.E.S.S. will someday be the future of Jaguar emulation.  ....But, for now, Project Tempest (PT) seems to work on all operating systems.   As well as, 32 Bit, and 64 Bit computers. 
 
  Atari Lynx

Handy is the best (and only) Atari Lynx emulator for your Computer.

Where to Install:
(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

BIOS:
surprisingly, You cannot play games without including Bios.
You must include the Lynxboot image.   (tga).

 Plugins:
This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

 Configuration:
This emulator is quite easy to use.  Requires little configuration.
However, there's little good options either.

 Features:
The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".

joypad configuration: this handheld emulator IS joypad compatible.  So, be thankful.


additional notes:  Handy does work fine,  but, it handles like a handheld system. 
 So, it's not the great emulator,  less interesting than those which play home console games.
 
  Colecovision
  
 

Basic info for Colecovision 
FreezeSMS has already been established as an emulator which plays BOTH Sega Master System Games, as well as, Colecovision games. Currently, MESS is also making strides toward perfect Colecovision emulation.
However, FREEZESMS 4.6 offers the best Colecovision play, with Joystick support.  Plus, it's somewhat easy to switch Roms while browsing through games. 

BIOS:
On M.E.S.S. , You cannot play games without including Bios.

However, on FreezeSMS, Bios are not necessary to play games.

Configuration:
On FreezeSMS 4.6, This emulator is quite easy to use.  Requires little configuration.
But, it can be slightly annoying.

Cheats: Pugsy�s Cheats is still trying.  Their website is retrogames.com/mess/downloads.htm.

joypad configuration: yes. It�s Joystick compatible. 
But, don�t forget:  The Original Colecovision Joypad has a numerical keybad.
This can become an issue with some games, such as �Baseball�.

additional notes:  Colecovision played the classic games perfectly.  Such examples include:
Ladybug, Centipede, and Donkey Kong.
However, there are 2 games in particular which MUST be played.
First and Foremost: SMURF (rescue) is the first true �Side-scrolling platform� game.
Released 2 years before SMB. 
SMURF was a true milestone in gaming history.
Now here�s the shocker:
   a game called CABBAGE PATCH KIDS was a graphic Masterpiece.
This game truly showed the Capabilities of Colecovision.
 
  Commodore 64

Basic info for Commodore64 
WinVICE is the Best Commodore 64 emulator for your PC.
There are other promising emulators, as well.
 but WinVICE is complete, and, User-Friendly.

BIOS:

You cannot play games without including Bios.
However, the BIOS are Built-into the interface.
Therefore, WINVice is playable without adding Bios.

Plugins: This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

Configuration:

This emulator is somewhat easy to configure.  But, can be annoying.

Features:

The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.  
IT seems, the necessary Plug-Ins are built into the emulator.

Cheats: The first Action Replay had low compatibility.
and, could do little more than adjust lives.
However, it also had a �Sprite Buster� mode, which allowed you to attempt full invincibility by this simple technique.  It usually did NOT work. However, sometimes, it was successful.
And, no codes were required.
 Basically, this feature was, more or less, a �Hail Mary�.

joypad configuration: Easy. 
However, don�t forget, Many Commodore64 games use Joystick #2.
In any case, many games are �sticky�, but through no fault of WinVice.
Blame this on the original programmers of C64 games.

additional notes:  This is the type of emulator which requires Mounting.
However, WinVice makes this task simple:
Simply click �FILE�, and then, �Autostart Disk/tape Image�.
Also, many Commodore64 programs took several minutes to load.
You can escape this inconvenience, by going to �Options�,
and temporarily changing �maximum speed� to �no limit� until the game loads.

 

Finally, Realm of Impossibility was an all-time favorite game of that era.
 
  GAMEBOY ADVANCE
VisualBoyAdvance
is a Top-10 Emulator
 

basic info for Visualboy Advance

Take your pick, but the Visualboy Advance CE 1.0 is possibly the best gameboy advance emulator for your Computer.  (Chosen over Visualboy Advance 1.72 Official release, and Visualboy 1.8 beta).

Where to Install:

(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

BIOS:

Bios are not necessary to play games.  However, other Gameboy advance emulators require the GBA.bios

Plugins:

This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

Configuration:

This emulator is quite easy to use.  Requires little configuration.

Features:

The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".

Cheats: Yes, but everything seems to be incompatible with Action Replay codes.   Still working on it.  However,  there's a special series of games which have cheatcodes built-in.

 

joypad configuration:  easy

additional notes:   After you've loaded a game:  if you try to load a different ROM, you might only see your save locations.  Thus, it's necessary to close the emulator each time a new Rom is loaded.

Visualboy advance seems to be fully backward compatible with original Gameboy Roms.  TheGameLord has gotten Cheats to work for a few gameboy Games.  

Some people argue over which version of Visualboy advance is the best.  1.72, 1.8 beta, or 1.0 CE.    But, amongst these emulators, our testers chose 1.0 CE.
 
  Intellivision
Intellivision emulators are still under development
 

Basic info for Intellivision 
Unfortunately, there is no great Intellivision emulator for your PC.

BIOS:

You cannot play games without including Bios.

 

Plugins: This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

 

Configuration:
This emulator is quite easy to use.  Requires little configuration.

 

Features:

The emulator is not fully ready for serious gameplay.


joypad configuration: Generally inaccurate.
Also, during its initial release, the intellivision keypad read up-side-down.
Therefore, when you press the #1 key, #2 key, and #3 key,
Intellivision will read them as #7, #8, and #9.
While, of course, you must press the #7 key, in order to choose player #1.
Quite confusing.

 

additional notes: These emulators have low compatibility.
However, NOSTALGIA seems to have the best interface.
You can view the entire Intellivision Line-up.
However, many games either freeze at the main menu;
or, fail to load altogether.

A few notes regarding the emulator; BLISS.
Bliss requires you to re-name the Bios.   Nonetheless, compatibility & handling are low, for the time being.
Hopefully, M.E.S.S. will advance the emulation of Intellivision Roms.
 
  Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator
           .M.A.M.E.

M.A.M.E.32FX  
is a Top-5 emulator.

 

basic info for MAME  (Mame32, MameFX, MAMEui, MAMExt)

It's tough to say, but,
perhaps, MAME Plus+ version 0.119 was the best MAME emulator for your Computer.
 However, MAME32 b volume 1.17 doesn't come too far behind.  Esentially, versions 1.06 thru 1.19 gave the highest compatibility.   While later versions, including 1.40 sacrificed a few classic NeoGeo Games.  So, it's your pick.

Where to Install:

(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

Plus, you can install multiple vesions of MAME,   together on One computer.  Thus, it's not necessary to choose between earlier versions of MAME and current versions.  

BIOS:

You cannot play games without including Bios.

And, there are seperate Bios for each different system type.   So, it's necessary to have several Bios.  They can be dragged into the same folder as your ROMS.      

Plugins:

This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

However, This emulator should be optimised with Plug-ins.    The most important addition is SNAPSHOT (which allows you to see a preview picture of each game.   The PNG files go into your SNAP folder). Other useful folders include  FLYER, Cabinet,  & Title.   But, the SNAPSHOTS are, by far, most abundant.  And most highly recommended.    Mame32 Plus+ has additional Graphics plugins available.  But, even without the enhancements, the gameplay is still quite smooth.

Configuration:

This emulator is somewhat easy to configure.  But, can be annoying.

This emulator requires lenghty and complex configuration, unless you keep everything in its original folder.   For example:  if you choose to keep ROMS in the roms folder within MAME, then, it won't be necessary to create a path.  However,  it's somewhat easy to choose a different path.

Features:

You will definitely be intersted in downloading added features which do not effect the game itself, yet enhance convenience of gameplay.  Including snapshots, and what-have-you.

However, the emulator, by itself (along with Bios) is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".

Cheats:  It's amazing.    Simply Unzip the Cheat.dat  in your MAME folder (where the MAME exe is located)  and  most games will have cheats.  Note that, Cheat.zip needs to first be unzipped  in order to work.    Also,  versions of MAME  1.34 and higher  NO longer use the Cheat.dat files.  Instead, they're using an entirely different cheat folder.       

In order to activate Cheats, you must first go to DEFAULT GAME PROPERTIES.    Under "MISCELLANEOUS",   click the "ENABLE GAME CHEATS"  option.     Then, when you're playing any game, simply press the TAB button (which is located to the LEFT of the Q-button).   This will enable the cheat screen.  Input (general), Input (this game), Custom Settings, Autofire Setting, Dip Switches.   Then finally,  the CHEAT option appears 3 rows from the bottom.   Press Enable/disable cheat.  Then Choose infinite lives, etc.   Then Return to the game.

 

joypad configuration:   under "Default Game Properties",  choose Controllers,  and press "Enable Joystick Support.     Important,  make sure this subscreen is entered BEFORE choosing any game.  This will allow the settings to remain Universal.  But, if you already loaded a game,  then the options will only apply to that particular game.   

Note that some ROMS have buggy Joystick handling.  And, some complex Racing games require advanced input skills.   SO, you probably won't be able to play all games with normal joypad.


*****additional notes: 

 the most important buttons you need to remember for MAME are :  the "5" key,  and the "1" key.      Games WILL NOT start playing  unless you press the "5" key (or 6 key).   This mimmics the act of Feeding Quarters into the system.    Then, the "1" key starts the game.   OR the "2" key starts a 2-player game. 

PLUS, the TAB key located near the Q key  will bring up the sub-screen.    You need a cheat.dat file  in order to activate cheats.   Various Cheat files seem to work universally for all early versions.  For example:  Cheat.dat  for version 1.19  also works on version 1.06.  But, unlike ROMS and Bios, the Cheat.dat cannot remain zipped.   It gets more confusing, because the latest Cheats for versions 1.34 and above now must remain Zipped.  But, early versions must still be unzipped.

ROMS absolutely should NOT be unzipped.   Each Rom remains Zipped up.   MAME will read them automatically.    Also,  Don't even think of playing most games unless BIOS are present. They may also remain zipped.  However, Bios seem to work either way.   Just make sure they're not accidentally Zipped in subfolders.   They must all be located in the same folder as the Roms. 

Don't forget,  the original MAME is intended for Programmers only.   Therefore, you must choose the variations of MAME, such as MAMEui, MAME32, MAMEfx, MAMEXT, MAME advance, and what-have-you.   SO, if anyone has tried to download the original MAME, it probably won't work because it lacks a Front-end.  Luckily, there are several MAME Teams who've released fine playable versions of MAME.

 

Also recommended :   If you choose a grey background (instead of the standard White)  it's much easier to see the huge Game Menu.

MAME32 is now called MAMEui.

Most notably,  MAME version 1.20  and higher generally cannot play various NEO GEO games.  However, the emulator NEORAGEX 0.8c still works on WIndows 7.

When downloading MAME ROMS, keep in mind that some ROMS require multiple parts.   So, if you download the USA version of a particular game, it might not work unless the world version is also downloaded.   Also, some Roms are the Fixed version.   And,  it's possible for the Fixed version to work with later versions of MAME,  but, only the Unfixed versions  work on earlier versions of MAME.

Finally,  MAME automatically chooses "default" folders,  for your convenience.
(artwork, cabinets, cpanel, etc).
And, if you wish to change the Folder's Location  (such as a different ROMpath),
                       .....then simply go to options, and change the directory.
 
  Neo Geo

Basic info for SNK's NEOGEO  (neogeo arcade)

The Old emulator �NEORAGE 0.8c� surprisingly still works on Windows 7.
MAME32 is probably better for playing NeoGeo Roms,
however, new versions of MAME seem to lack support.
Other NeoGeo emulators, such as �Nebula� are also recommended.

Where to Install:

(flexibility) 
This emulator should be installed in the program files. 
But, could be installed into any folder.

 

BIOS:

You cannot play games without including Bios.
You�ll notice, my �STOCKED� version of NeoRage 0.8c has the necessary bios.
Surprisingly, those 2 bios seem to be adequate.
After dumping the entire MAME Bios list, there was no added support.
Therefore, NeoRageX might have limitations.
Example:  excluding newer games such as Metalslug5.
Also, when using NeoRage 0.8c, check the bottom of the list, because
games will sometimes appear directly below the menu, as well.

Plugins: This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

Configuration:
This emulator is somewhat annoying to configure. 

 

Features:

The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for game playing.   

Cheats: Yes, but MAME is better.

joypad configuration: must be configured.  

additional notes:  the worst part of this emulator is creating a ROM path.
that�s why I�ve attempted to do this work, for you.
Take the �NEO GEO GAMES� folder, and drag it to your �C� drive.
and, when creating a directories path, it should simply read
                                   C:\NEO GEO GAMES\    So, in other words, NeoRageX only allows short RomPaths.
Also note: you'll need to refresh the emulator, since it's currently listing all compatible games.

finally:

 Downloading from various websites can be tricky.
I�ve included a separate folder named �Roms which do not work with NeoRage.�
And, you�ll notice,
   they�re the same 2 games which work perfectly fine in the Neo Geo Games folder.
In other words: 2 dumps worked with this emulator,
while the other 2 dumps work on another emulator.  
 
  NeoGeo Pocket Color

Neopop v 0.71(win32 v 1.06b)  is the only good NeoGeo Pocket emulator for your Computer.

Where to Install:

(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

BIOS:

Bios are not necessary to play games.

Plugins:

This emulator will not play games unless accompanied with additional plug-ins.
There are different zips which are installed. 
However, the gameLord has attempted to eliminate these confusing steps.
And, he's simply gonna Zip up an emulator which is already functioning. 

 

Configuration:

This emulator is somewhat easy to configure.  But, can be annoying.

additional notes:  It's just a simple handheld emulator.   Don't expect more than a 2x screen graphics, and basic straightforward gameplay.

Nintendo Entertainment System

FCEUx is a 
Top-5 emulator
 

basic info for FCEUX 


FCEUX is the best NES emulator for your home computer.

Where to Install:

(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

BIOS:

Bios are not necessary to play games.

Plugins:

This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

Configuration:

This emulator is quite easy to use.  Requires little configuration.

Features:

The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".

Cheats:  YES.  Codes were created by TheGameLord.   But, you must note:  all FCEU codes on the GameLord's Website end with 000 to 255.   But, the FCEUx  has changed to the hexidecimal system.  Meaning,  their codes end with 00 to FF.   There's a chart on the GROUP.

 

joypad configuration:

If you go to the input section,  it should be able to automatically read the joypad, along with the buttons.

 

additional notes:  the FCEUx has changed it's save and load feature.  It now handles more like a SNES9x.      You can now save games by pressing shift & F1 simultaneously.  or, by pressing Shift & F2 thru F9 simultaneously.   Then, when you want to load your game save location, simply press the F1 key,  or  F2, F3,  or whichever location you've saved.
                 N.E.S.- Additional Info

ALthough FCEUx is the best choice,there are other emulators worth giving a try.

VIRTUA NES is an excellent emulator.
As well as, RockNES, and Nestopia.
In simple terms: there�s sometimes more than one good emulator.
But, the top choice is based upon many factors;
such as graphics, User-friendliness, Joypad handling, configuration, & compatibility with several Operating Systems.
I also consider the number of options available, the ability to save & load, Set-up features, How ROMS are listed, and, Cheat Codes.

So, with all considered:  the choices are usually clear.
     FCEUx is one such example.

While occasionally, it�s not easy to decide which is best.
    Chankast (dreamcast) emulator is not the clear winner.

So, keep this in mind.     
 
  NINTENDO 64
Project 64 is a

Project 64 1.6 is the best NINTENDO 64 emulator for your Computer.

Where to Install:

This emulator should be installed in the program files.  Otherwise it will not work correctly. (however, Windows 7 allows more relaxed installation folders).

BIOS:

This emulator requires a speedy processor.   Preferably a "Duel Core" or better.

Project 64 1.6   is better than 1.7.    The latest version 1.7  is very buggy.  Plus, it's an unoffical "Hacked version".   Anti-virus engines sometimes remove the [Project 64 1.7 exe].

Also note: Project 64 1.5  actually had the highest compatibility.  But , the emulator is less stable.

DOLPHIN is the best GameCube emulation for your Home Computer.
The Dolphin project also attempts to emulate Wii.
In simple terms:  This emulator is a milestone in the history of gaming.
IT was the very first to successfully emulate 7th generation systems,
and, to some degree, 8th generation as well.
Dolphin is also the only 7th Gen to provide good emulation, as well as user-friendly characteristics.

Where to Install:

(flexibility)  On Windows 7, This emulator can be installed into any folder, as desired.
However, on Windows XP, it should be located in your Program Files.

BIOS:
???  It almost seems as though, Bios are not necessary to play games.  

Plugins:

This emulator should work fine without added plug ins,
                      mainly because extensive plug-ins are included with the emulator.

Configuration:

This emulator is somewhat easy to configure.  But, can be very annoying.
However, considering the task, it�s vastly easier than all 6th & 7th generation emulators.

Features:
The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.
This accomplishment alone is amazing for a 7th gen.  

Cheats:

 

joypad configuration: not surprisingly, Joypad configuration is somewhat difficult, and inaccurate.

 

additional notes:  In two simple words:  aye carumba, it really works.
  Of course, this emulator is not meant for serious play. 
 Needless to say, your Nintendo GameCube will handle vastly better than Dolphin.
But, the most important thing is that you might be able to have alittle fun with it.
In other words:  The Dolphin Emulator might actually allow you to load-up some .ISO�s (games),
 And, you might actually be able to play them, �.just for kicks.
It�s not the type of emulator which anyone should use to complete Zelda, or Mario Sunshine.
But, if you wanna play around with Mario Kart for a few hours, Dolphin might accomplish that task.

Final note: please remember the moral implications, here.   Maybe, the programmers shouldn�t even try to emulate a 7th generation system. And, hopefully, they�ll never perfect it.
The Gaming companies are entitled to protect their investments.
and, perfect emulation could ruin it, someday.
But, for now, at least there�s a fairly good emulator which mimics GameCube on your P.C.
IT�S CALLED DOLPHIN.
�.and, it does a fairly good job.
                          (not to mention, Wii emulation as well.)
�..Let�s just hope, they never perfect it.

This means, the code is available to anyone.
And, independent workers have the opportunity to attempt making improvements.

WinDS Pro is a universal DS emulator.
within the interface, no$gba apparently has the best Nintendo DS emulation.
iDeas is also a high quality emulator.
(but �Ideas� doesn't handle well on Windows 7)

 The folks offering WinDS Pro have finally created a Stable version [in English].
Essentially, this emulator has all top DS emulators, built-into the interface.
So, you�re given the option to choose No$gba, iDeas, or DeSmuME.
(�plus a Gameboy advance emulator, VBA.
All emulators handle quite nicely. And, WinDS pro gives added features.
(save & cheat files), as well as Graphic enhancements. (larger screen).
WinDSpro also enables improved stability in iDeas.
All choices work nicely, but, clicking no$gba is recommended.

Where to Install:

(flexibility) This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.

BIOS:

You cannot play games without including Bios.
Here�s the tricky part.  When using WinDSpro, the same Bios must be placed in all folders.
Each emulator operates separately from each-other.
Go to the emu subfolder (just above uninstall), and, you will see a variety of subfolders:
desmume, ideas, no$gba. Each folder requires Bios.
           �That�s the singular most important info.

Plugins: This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

Configuration:
This emulator is quite easy to use.  Requires little configuration.

Features:

The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.  
(of course, just add bios  in the main folder).
Also, ROMS must be unzipped.

joypad configuration: easy, but slightly annoying.

additional notes:  not many graphics options;
But, hey, it works.  However, you�ll find low-compatibility.
So, a lot of games simply won�t work.
and, of course, the graphics are choppy.
SO, needless to say: Don�t replace your DS.
These emulators should be seen as a novelty.

Worst-of-all,
this emulator doesn�t seem to have a good feature for �saving game-state�.
Plus, the battery save usually fails.

Apparently, WinDSpro doesn�t have an exit option, until after an emulator has been chosen.

 

Finally: don�t forget to click �options�, and �save options�.
Nogba seems to lose your configuration data easily.

This emulator is somewhat easy to configure.  But, can be annoying.
Most importantly:  if you don�t have the correct graphics settings, the emulator will not run.
In addition to ISO�s, the emulator also runs CD-ROMS & DVD-ROMS. 
(meaning, the PS2 game disks which you purchased at the store). 

Features:
The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".
Just add Bios.   

Cheats:

joypad configuration: Setting up will be a long process.
(This is also true with any NextGen emulator).

additional notes: 
PCSX2 only loads the Title Screen in most games.
However, attempting to emulate PS2 is a gallant effort.
And, maybe someday, the compatibility list will become more extensive.
Perhaps then, we�ll be able to play most games haphazardly.

Once again, these NextGen emulators are a novelty.
and, it�s not meant to replace your system.
Whereas, the old emulators (such as ZSNES, GENS, & Magic Engine) handled perfectly.
Don�t expect too much accuracy.
But it would still be nice if more PS2 ISO�s loaded in future releases.

basic info for EPSXE 

EPSXE 1.70 is the best Playstation emulator for your Computer.

Where to Install:

This emulator should be installed in the program files.  Otherwise it will not work correctly.
                  However, the latest version 1.70 seems to work in any folder.

BIOS:

You cannot play games without including Bios. SCPH1001.

Plugins:

This emulator will not play games unless accompanied with additional plug-ins.
The Windows XP version (epsxe 1.6)  also requires WNAPSI32 installation.  After installing it, the feature must then be activated.    This can be frustrating, because it's necessary to restart the program AND restart the computer twice.   EPSXE version 1.7  on Windows 7  seems to be much less complicated.

 

Configuration:

This emulator is extremely diffucult to configure.  And, casual gamers will not understand.  Most importantly, the Games (either IMG, Disc Image Files, or .nrg) won't even load unless configured correctly for your computer.   SO, unless the correct Graphics plug in  is selected, the Game will not load.  Plus, they must also be configured correctly.   If the settings are incorrect, the game won't be able to start.    It basically acts as though you're missing the ROM  or Bios.   
In simple terms:  EPSXE is difficult to configure.  However, ALL PSX emulaters are ever harder.

Version 1.70, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   After configuring the Graphics, sound, and choosing your BIOS.  You also must choose an "image recorder"  in the CDROM option.  This teaches the emulator to treat Games  as though it was a CD.  

Features:

The EPSXE version 1.60 contains an additional Epsxecutor and launcher.   These were not supposed to be packaged with the emulator.   But, the emulator simply would NOT work  without these additional plug-ins.   (plus, the Winaspi32).   This is why Hackers began bundling the entire 480 kilobye zip  together, even though EPSXE complained.    (in short:  EPSXE was not authorized to include these additional plug-ins  since they did not create them).   So, if you ever find the original small sized 180 kilobyte Zip  of EPSXE,  it essentially couldn't work by itself. 

 

Cheats:  You need the PEC,  otherwise known as PSX emulation cheater.   AFTER you configure your graphics plug-in,  then the "psx emulation cheater 2.5" option is then shared on the same configuration option.  I do Not agree with that, but, that's how it works.  Both the Graphics option & PSX cheater basically share the same config space, instead of adding an extra option.

 

joypad configuration:  This emulator is difficult to configure.   However, the Joypad config  is surprisingly reasonable.  And, you should have no problem. 

 

additional notes:  This emulator is certainly not for beginners.}
  However, the games run quite smoothly.   And, it's easy to browse through many games.   So, it's really worth the effort.      Basically, this is a VALID Playstation emulator for your computer.

Also note;  when loading the emulator,  it alwasys seems to read "Out of Bump".  This is a universal flaw.  So, there's nothing wrong with your particular computer.

When starting a game,  choose FILE, then,  RUN ISO.   then, you must locate  the Game ISO
 (or, use a playstation  .nrg file). 
Also, if you wish to save your Location:
pressing the F1 button saves your game state.
You can also toggle between 5 different save locations  with the F2 button.
Then, pressing the F3 would return you to that location.

However, Game saves between version 1.6 and 1.7 are seemingly incompatible.  
 
     Sega 
Dreamcast 

 
 

Introduction to Dreamcast emulation
It�s now time to review Chankask, & NULLDC.  This review will only appeal to advanced users.

The Dreamcast emulators are very complicated.
Chankast alpha025 has always been considered the best, while NULLDC rates nearly as well.
And, Demul is currently in development. Thus, Demul could be the DC emulator of the future.

Where to Install:

(flexibility)  This emulator is designed to be installed into any folder, as desired.
Note:  When using Windows 7, pretty much every emulator can be installed wherever desired.
(Windows XP had a different configuration
                       which sometimes required emulators to be placed into the Program Files.

 

BIOS:

You cannot play games without including Bios.
Other Plugin�s are required, as well.

Plugins:

This emulator will not play games unless accompanied with additional plug-ins.

Configuration:
This emulator is extremely difficult to configure.  And, casual gamers will NOT understand.

ALSO NOTE: these emulators are designed to run ISO games.
This means; generally speaking: a file is stored on your computer.
Unfortunately, many NextGen emulators do not work with Game CD�s.

Features:
only the most advanced users will be able to operate NullDc. (or, Chankast).
IT requires more than configuration. (such as, mounting virtual drives and images). 

joypad configuration: very difficult to configure, and often unstable.

additional notes:  This is a preliminary report.  I will not be giving detailed instructions here.
Emulators, such as NULLDC (and Chankast 025) are the most complicated imaginable.
They require more than just configuration and Bios.
Rather instead, you need mounting tools.  And, advanced knowledge of its properties.
Okay, here�s a simple explanation:
 As of now, NullDc (and Chankast) does not load ROMS in a conventional manner (whereas other emulators use a simple point & click).  Rather instead, your goal is to MOUNT an image to a �Virtual CD Drive�.
Yes, you heard that correctly.

The ultimate goal is to TRICK your computer into believing a CD has loaded.
And, this is achieved by using special tools to create another CD drive onto your computer. 
(but, in fact, the CD drive does not actually exist.   It�s a virtual drive).
And then, the .ISO is fed to the virtual CD.  And, that�s how it plays.
(note:  --an .ISO is the dreamcast game.  It�s Similar to a .ROM,  only a much larger file).
Other CD systems use .ISO�s, instead or ROMS.
As you can see, it�s a very complicated process.
and, since it�s difficult to re-mount another game, it�s not recommended for brief viewing.
I actually got this to work, using WINDOWS XP. 
Surprisingly, the games do handle quite well, despite the trouble.
It was fun to play SanFransisco Rush  for a few hours.
Then, after getting bored, another game was mounted.
That�s precisely how it works.   There�s no list of games to browse through.
The emulator didn�t handle as well on Windows Vista or Windows 7.

One final note:   when mounting a �virtual drive�, you will actually see it, on your computer.
SO, along with your �C� drive, and possible a �D� drive.  As well as your �DVD RW� drive.  There will also be another CD/DVD drive along with that.  As I�ve explained before, it�s a �virtual drive�. And, if you can ever get a game to load successfully, the virtual drive will actually look different.  You should see an Icon which suggests the game has loaded successfully.

 

Bottom Line:  This is a very complicated process.
            And, it�s just too difficult for the average user to comprehend.
 
  SEGA GENESIS

BIOS:

Bios are not necessary to play sega genesis games.  However, bios are needed to play 32x ROMS and Sega CD games.   This also requires going to CONFIG, then OPTION, BIOS/MISC FILES,  then going to the directory where your Bios are located. 
     Bios: 32X_G_Bios, 32X_M_Bios, 32X_S_Bios, scd_110.   Others will work, as well.

Plugins:

This emulator should work fine without added plug ins.

 

Configuration:

This emulator is somewhat easy to configure.  But, can be alittle annoying.

Features:

The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".

Cheats:  Yes, listed on TheGameLord.com website.  All codes are original.  However, with GENS, the codes are "off" by default.  So, every time you open a ROM,  you must hilight  a desired code. Any codes hilighted in blue   are then "Turned On".

 

joypad configuration: Sometimes tricky.  Especially with the entire GENS serious.   You sometimes need to try twice, before successfully choosing the correct button.  However, Luckily ,  all the glitches seem to be fixed with Gens32 Surreal.


Plus, Gens 2.14 expected a double click for each configuration. That's how their Joystick Configuration works.  Instead of a 'single click', the Gens emulator expects a 2nd click for verification. 

 

additional notes:  the best thing about GENS32 surreal is the feature of choosing multiple directories.   Therefore, you can keep all your favorites in one Folder, "directory A". Then, mabye, put all your 32x games in the game directory "C'  as well.   It's entirely up to you.    Gens32 Surreal has also overcome the graphic glitches.   And, it doesn't switch to low res, anymore.

You can Save your game location with the F5 key.   Then, load to that location using the F8 key.  And, you can toggle between different save locations with the F6 and F7 keys.  However, the numbers of each game slot 1 thru 5  are difficult to read.

This emulator is quite easy to use.  Requires little configuration.
But, it can be annoying. 
The emulator doesn�t expand smoothly unless a game is loaded in the CD drive.

Features:
The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying. 
 "Ready to go" (after adding bios, of course)

Cheats: There was a GameShark for Sega Saturn.
 But, the yabause emulator handles cheats better than SSF.

joypad configuration:
Very Easy.  That�s amazing for a 6th Gen emulator.

additional notes: 
Rumor has it, this emulator can accept ISO/BIN/CUE files,  as well.
But, it�s a lengthy process requiring Daemon tools, & mounting an image drive.
This is too advanced for average gamers.
The Sega Dreamcast instruction goes into more detail regarding this process.
Also note: �image drives� sometimes fail for no reason whatsoever,
                                          thus requiring a 2nd attempt.

Most Importantly, many emulators are designed to specifically read certain types of files.
Therefore, if the emulator reads �CUE� files, you might be out-of-luck�.
                                    ���if your entire collection consists of �ISO�s� or �BIN�.
 
  Sega Master System

when Game Info Files are installed, FreezeSMS is a Top-10 Emulator.  Capable of playing Game Gear games, and Colecovision games; as well as Sega Master System.   Plus, the ability to enter Cheat codes.

You might be intersted in downloading added features which do NOT effect the game itself, yet enhance convenience of gameplay.  Including snapshots, and what-have-you.

The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".

Cheats:  Built into the emulator & plug-in.  But, somewhat diffucult to use.  Go to the main screen  and hilight the desired game.   Then , you will see a sidebar list of options  toward the right.  Information/ Box Text/ Review/ Instructions/ Tips/ cheats/ walkthrough/ and PAR codes/ .  Next,  on the TOP bar, there are options, such as Play/ jump/ games/ folders/ Bios/ PAR/ config.   Now, click the PAR icon, then drag the desired codes to slots 1 thru 4.   Note, that most of the top codes need to be manually installed, because they are not included in the Codes-list included with Freeze SMS.     You can find the best codes on the GameLord.com  homepage.    Note,  the codes must manually be typed in, each time the emulator is played.  Unlike other emulators,  codes are not saved.  However, there is a clever trick to permanently keep your codes.  Simply save the game, and the codes remain embedded within.

 

joypad configuration: should be easy.

 

additional notes:  Game save feature is identical to Gens32.   The F5 key saves a game, while F8 loads it.  Then , toggle betwen save slots by pressing F6 and F7. 

Also note:  DEGA is much easier to use than FreezeSMS.   However, Dega has not added features such as PAR codes.  And, the graphics are not enhanced on DEGA.

Finally,  as an added bonus, Freeze SMS plays all COLECOVISION games flawelessly.

Features:

The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".


Cheats:  -This website now hosts cheats for almost evey game.  And, you keep them on, so long as the "Apply Cheats" checkmark remains.   And, your choices will be automatically saved, as well.

joypad configuration:   sometimes tricky.   Version 1.52 has mostly eliminated those problems.

additional notes:  the only drawback to version 1.52 is how the sound is automatically configured for fullest optiminization.   But, if your sound card doesn't read it,  there will be NO sound.  It basically claims that your Directx is not working correction.   In order to solve this problem, simply go into to the Sound option, choose settings,  and select a different sound mode.  Perhaps, choose "Snes9x Direct Sound".

ALSO NOTE:    ZSNES v. 1.36  seems to be the only SNES Emulator which plays YOSHI's ISLAND.   The ZNES is actually smoother than SNES9x, but, it's less user-friendly.    In zsnes, the F2 button saves your game location, while the F4 button  loads the location.   And, F3 toggles between different locations.    The Codes load automatically, but, it's less user-friendly.     Earlier versions of ZSNES & SNES9x  could use the same save locations.  But, this has since become incompatible.   However, the cheat codes are identicle.  

SNES9x version 1.51 has less graphic enhancements.    However, the sound is perfect, without glitch.
 
  Turbographx 16

Magic Engine is not totally User-friendly.  However, it handles like a Top-10 Emulator.

Configuration:

This emulator is somewhat easy to configure.  But, can be annoying.

It's also somewhat annoying when trying to load ROMS.  You often lose your place, trying to find the correct folders.

Features:

The emulator, by itself is completely adequate for gameplaying.   "Ready to go".  You are allowed 5 minutes game time  in "Free Mode". 

Cheats:  No gamegenie.   Just  passwords, and joypad sequences.

 

joypad configuration:  surprisingly easy, when considering how this emulator lacks user-friendly qualities.

 

additional notes:  version 0.99 is probably more User-friendly than version 1.3.    On the main configuration screen, press enter to "Load Rom".   Next, you must locate the folder where your roms are located.  This seems to be the trickiest part of Magic Engine.

Game Save Slots  (Using Magic Engine)  are performed by simply pressing F1, F2, F3, or F4  to SAVE your game Location.   Then press  F5, F6, F7, or F8  to load your game location.

Then, press the ESC key  to load another ROM.

Other Turbographx emulators.

Hu-go works nicely, but, has compatibility issues with Windows Vista and WIndows 7.

or, if you don't wanna pay 20 bucks for the excellent Magic-Engine,  
then try, Ootake .    Version 2.43 of Ootake was released in 2010.    

And, it does work with Windows 7.


There's one final irony:  Magic Engine vol. 0.99 is probably the best version.  While ME 1.0 and higher were primarily unfinished and experimental.

and, the translation is superb, (without the 3-D effects, though). 
Hey, you cannot expect them to make miracles.
SO, forget trying to play Virtualboy on MESS.
There�s already an emulator that does it wall.   It�s called Vbjin.
The only drawback is the name itself.
They could�ve been more creative when naming this great emulator.
Thus, very few people will ever give it a chance. 

There were other fine efforts to emulate Virtualboy. 
These examples include Rboy 084 & rd 38.
That�s Reality boy,  and Red Dragon. 
But, neither device handles well on Windows 7.

Which leaves us with: VB jin.   The best Virtualboy emulator.

XBOX emulation seems to be in early development.
So, you�re completely on your own.
My guess would be that few (if any) games would ever load.
Also, Microsoft has made their disks difficult to Rip, or mount.
Hey , Good for them!

 

In any case, this collection also has a version of CXBX with a front end.
It goes by the name of �Click-2U_Xbox�.

It's also quite probable, there will never be an Xbox 360 emulator.    And, currently, the Playstation 2 emulator is a mere novelty.   Thus, don't ever expect to find a working Playstation 3 emulator.

Contained within this collection  are the emulators which are most recommended.
It has been compiled, in order to make things simpler for novice & intermediate users.

They all share the same features:
smooth gameplay, accurate graphics, joystick support, high compatibility.

You should first try the  SNES9x (super Nintendo),
because this is the easiest emulator to use.

Other User-Friendly emulators include GENS (sega Genesis), FCEU (nintendo 8-bit), and, Visualboy Advance (Super Gameboy).  (Although gameplay is not smooth on the Visualboy Advance.)

The entire MAME 32 & MAMEFX series is also useful & user-friendly.  This emulator has an arsenal of some 8,000 possible games.   The MAME series has now developed into MAME64, MAMEui, and MAMEXT.    All versions are highly recommended, although the gamelord prefers older versions, such as MAME32 1.17b.

The ZSNES is also a great emulator, although less-user friendly than SNES9x.

There are emulators on this List which  deliver average performance.  But, they've been included, because they're easy to use.  HANDY (atari Lynx)  and NEOPOP (neogeo pocket)  are 2 examples.
MAGIC ENGINE stands in a class all its own, because, it's the only smooth Turbographx emulator.

The only questionable emulator is FREEDO (3DO emulator)  which is difficult to configure, inaccurate graphics & gameplay.   But, it's the only worthwhile attempt to emulate the 3DO multiplayer. Thus, it was included on the list.

EPSXE (ps1)  & Project 64 (nintendo 64) are also included, since both emulators are potentially useful, once properly configured.   (good luck trying).

You will not find any serious PS2 or XBOX emulators, since they are not yet perfected.

Additional emulators will be included on the 2nd Compilation list.

But, the first segment only contains the absolute best emulators.


             Those which can rn on Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.
                 Those which accept both 32 bit and 64 bit engines.
(although, 
    most emulators will run in 32-bit mode when being played on 64 bit systems)

 These emulators have also been tested to run effectively on Intel & AMD Processors  Those with the highest system compatibility are being chosen. This is why some emulators made the Top list, while others didn't.  

 

Each folder contains information pertaining the the emulator.
Whether or not bios are needed?
Is the emulator easy to configure?
are additional plugins required?

So, hopefully, the novice user won't be lost trying to complete their setup.

What�s an emulator?

answer:     An emulator mimics gameplay on your computer. This enables you to play �Roms� conveniently. Without the �emulator�, the roms cannot be played. Because Roms are Not self-executable. Most emulators can only mimic one game system. So, it�s necessary to have seperate emulators representing each game system. Also, most emulators are flawed and incomplete. So, don�t get too excited when you see devises which claim to play �Playstation 2″ games on your computer. In many cases, the emulator cannot load any games. While in other cases, it�s not user-friendly. Our links will direct you toward the best emulators. It�s not necessary to download useless or abandoned projects.

 

Question: what is a Rom?

answer:      A Rom is just another word for �Pirated Game� which you can play on your home computer, using an emulator. Theoretically, the law required you to own the original game, in order to download a back-up copy. Roms will only play on specific emulators. Also, ISO files are another example of playable games for home computer. ISO�s usually carry large amounts of information. Finally, some emulators will also play the Zipped versions of Roms.

 

Question:  What are Bios?

answer:     They are the program which allowed the original game system to operate.   For example: when turning on the Sony Playstation, a logo appears.     Thus, in order to operate some emulators, the original Bios are needed.    Or else, the unit won't be able to boot.   However, some programmers have been able to bypass this feature.    For example:  The Gens emulator can play Roms, even without Bios.
Some emulators, such as MAMEui  will require dozens of bios.  Because each Arcade unit needs its own programmable start-up code.

answer:    just realize that most emulators are experimental. And, there are few which actually handle quite well. On the other hand, our codes have been thoroughly tested (usually to completion).


question:  Is there any additional advice?

Answer:  don't waste too much time downloading games.  You could potentially spend several months getting stuff that you'll never even play.  So, there's no need to become a computer Junkie.  
In the end: it won't bring happiness to you.  So, don't take Computer gaming too seriously.  Just have fun. 

 

question: You provide links to hundreds (if not thousands) of cheat codes.
Are there any glitches or errors?

answer:    the codes throughout the collection were chosen because they�re the best. These lists contain the best 15% codes, while any less useful material was not included. However, there are natural glitches which occur when you try to mix contradictary effects. So, if you�re ever experiencing trouble, simply use one code at a time (rather than abusing the power). Personally, I tend to overstock on weapons and energy. So, apparently , I don't practice what I preach.  (but, after using a half dozen cheatcodes .... I'm always a winner !).


Question: how many games are supported?

answer:      their list of codes contains hacks for nearly every game in the three primary supported emulators (GENS Surreal (sega genesis), FCEUx (Nintendo 8-bit), and SNES9x (ZSNES). However, Rumor has it, the CodeMakers have since added a few dozen extras to their private collection, but they never made their way to the net. SO, unfortunately, a handful of codes did not make the list.

If you're ever tried to download from the internet, most websites give little information regarding reliability, user-friendliness, and system compatibility.   This is the main reason why it was necessary to create an organized list, featuring details for novice users.   For years, advanced hackers have enjoyed vintage gaming, while honest consumers were unable to comprehend its resources.     
Also, emulators are usually reviewed by experts.  And, they fail to consider overall usability for genral audiences.    In the process, they've given favorable rating to emulators which are too complex for the average gamer.  And, in some cases,  non-working emulators have been released emulatos which could not successfully run games);  but, the website failed to mention this.   In other words, The Gaming Sites have not given any help to beginners.

SO, hopefully, you'll find the 3-part list of emulation to be quite useful.
Don't forget to continue checking for updated version of each emulator, as they're released.

(also be warned:    
    Many Rom/emulation downloading sites contain malware or spyware.)

This downloads on this site do not contain any malware.

Now, with all said  ....please remember the main purpose of emulation:
It helps to preserve our history of gaming; which would othewise be lost and forgotten.
Please keep this fact in mind.
And, don't try to regard PC emulation as a replacement for our existing Home Console Units.
The entire field of emulation does raise many moral issues.
And the question arises:  Should any gaming downloads be available to the public?
Some would argue that it's perfectly okay, since the Gaming Systems are no longer active.
However, ask yourself:
       What would happen if the public simply waited a few years for games to be freely available, instead of buying them at the store?
It would spell the end to the entire gaming industry.
Just remember that most NextGen systems are a mere novelty.
And,  even those functional games still don't handle well compared to the Home Consoles.
Plus, the emulators can be troublesome to operate.
Downloading games can be time-consuming, as well as spreading malware on your computer.

SO, with all considered:  feel free to enjoy emulation for your computer.

Not all emulators are created the same.   While some are ready to play, others cannot function properly without plugins, bios, or, other add-ons.   Plus, some emulators are not user-friendly.  So, 3rd party programmers created front ends to help make things easier.     One example has been included in the downloads collection: within the Sega Saturn folder.


The classic emulators, such as Gens, SNES9x, and Nestopia do not require Front ends.
However, many advanced emulators run more smoothly when front ends are added.
Unfortunately, few people know how this is done.

Notice the difference between the normal Chankast download,
                                         �.and the completed version with Front end.
            There�s a big difference.

 

In any case,
The download link on Rodrigodica�s Website had been defunct for over a year.
But, it�s included here in the �Best Emulators� collection.

Now, when running Chankast,
you�ll notice in the �options� section, you�re allowed to choose a drive.
This differentiates between your CD drive and a virtual drive.
But, this type of emulator is only for advanced users who know how to use Daemont Tools.
Personally, I think it�s too complicated. 
And, even though I�ve gotten games to Run, it�s almost not worth the effort.
(Unless you�re willing to keep the virtual drive running for several days).

Joystick configuration is now easy,
But unfortunately, Dreamcast games were not standard CD�s.
They used a GD-ROM instead of CDR.
(At the time, Dreamcast disks were often referred to as VCD�s. �or, Video-CD�s).
This might explain why DC emulators focus more upon ISO files. L


It's not necessary to remind you that most items must be unzipped, before they can be used.
This rule doesn't only pertain to Emulators, but, plug ins, as well.

The items must also be placed into the appropriate folder.
In the case of EPSXE, there should be a folder named "Plugins",
 and that's where all the graphic enhancements should go. 
Once again, this is self-explanable to the advanced gamer.

But, the novice gamer must realize that such items must be dumped into the proper location.  Then, in many instances, it must also be properly configured.

And, the items should be placed into the proper folder.

Also, many emulators, such as EPSXE 1.6,
                   require a "front end" or "executor"  in order to function correctly.
 Thus, certain emulators by itself will not be adequate.

Finally, items should usually be unzipped within the folder.   But, there are exceptions."
Or, in some cases, the plug-ins or Bios will work fine, either zipped or  Unzipped.
